THE BARRICADE & THE MOAT

I found a hole
In your barricade.
Small it was
In a quiet corner
With huge blinding lights circling,
Looking for intruders and escapees.
I had to bend some barbed wire
With my bare hands
In the intermittent dark.
I pulled out a torch,
A gift from you
To use when you weren't around
To "protect me",
To "care for me".
You aren't around now.
I didn't really need your torch.
Thought I'd bring it along now,
Simply for the symbolism
Cheeky, I know,
But, I thought that was what you liked about me.
After the barricade is the moat
I'm not much of a swimmer
That's why I put this off for so long,
But now,
Crossing that water
I feel as if I am flying;
I realise,
I found a hole in your barricade!
As the crocodiles help me across.
